  1. Boris Kaufman of course shot ON THE WATERFRONT too, and he’s a supreme master who knows the NYC area and all it’s possibilities. From Hoboken to Harlem to downtown he is adroit at capturing downtrodden locales and seedy neighborhoods, like the ones seen in THE PAWNBROKER.

  2. What struck me Sam was the documentary-like veracity of the street scenes, which placed the story in a wider context – this is but one story amongst many others -an affirmation that “there are a thousand stories in the naked city”.
