  1. I saw this film on the final night of the Film Forum’s “Pre-Code” Festival,(Thursday, August 11) appropriately enough in the very city where it is set, among the very skyscrapers that define it’s essence both architecturally and thematically, and in the very place where people once walked with similar beaurocratic bravado and scheming ideas. Warren William again defines why he has been aptly referred to as the “King of the Pre-Codes” and the “heel of heels.” The film rates high in his distinguished filmography, with a brace of other films seen at teh festival: THE MOUTHPIECE, UPPER WORLD, BEAUTY AND THE BOSS and THE MIND READER most significantly.

Great to see this striking black and white still and this important early work in your distinguished series!
