Patterns (1956): Corporate Noir

Ruthless machinations in the executive suite.  An older executive with a social conscience is ‘pushed’ to make way for a younger talented manager from a regional office. Murder by another name.  Rod Serling’s 1954 tele-play hit the big screen in 1956 with powerhouse performances from Van Heflin, Ed Begley, and Everett Sloane.

  1. Hi! Tony,
Thanks, for sharing…because I have never watched this film 1956 film called Patterns, but my good friend Diane, have reviewed this film on a message board that I frequent.
Therefore, I have no choice, but to seek this film out to watch… because you both have piqued my interest in this film.

  2. Tony,

I’m hoping to do a round-up like I did last year, with selections from the best of my blogroll. Unfortunately, my blogging has been so sporadic this year I don’t feel like I’ve kept up with the “fellow travelers” sufficiently. So I decided to have the bloggers themselves pick their own best work – while I enjoyed picking my own favorites in the past, this will be more representative than my own sporadic reading would allow for 2009.

For what it’s worth, I’ve loved your impressionistic noir mood pieces and also your great Lost Weekend essay, but I know I’ve missed a lot of posts too – so feel free to correct me!

Your own submissions can be put here:

On another note, I’ve really relished are sometimes contentious, always illuminating discussions on Wonders over the past year. Looking forward to more great reading, writing, watching, and discussing in 2010. Mea culpa & a happy new year!

  3. Thanks DeeDee. Glad to have ‘piqued’ your interest. All the best for 2010!

Hey Joel. Thanks for the feedback. It is much appreciated. The year has passed much too quickly! I will make my submission to The Sun Is Not Yellow now.

Likewise Joel, I have enjoyed our jousting at Wonders In the Dark, and our discussions have certainly clarified my thinking on many issues. Have a great 2010!

  4. Enjoy these comments!!! Ha!!

As far as PATTERNS, I just got in as part of the Criterion release of GOLDEN AGE OF TELEVISION, so it’s on the must watch list. Excellent dramatic clip here.
