City Streets (1931) Speakeasy delivery convoy…
Director – Rouben Mamoulian | Cinematography – Lee Garmes
Oh boy, director Rouben Mamulian and director of photographer Lee Garmes shooting on the streets of Astoria Queens, the most western section the borough, that connects it with Manhattan via the Triborough (now RFK) Bridge. Astoria has a sizable Greek community. (Famed opera diva Maria Callas was born and spent her childhood in Astoria) Martin Scorsese’s GOODFELLAS and A BRONX TALE were filmed in Astoria, and the television classics “All in the Family” and “Seinfeld” were set there.
Anyway, CITY STREETS is quite the atmospheric noir.
