The Sexual Politics of Mildred Pierce

Mildred Pierce (1948)

The anonymous blog, Precious Bodily Fluids, has posted an interesting feminist critique of Mildred Pierce (1945).

I disagree with much of the article, but it is well-written and offers a novel perspective.  My views have been added as a comment to the post.

  1. “As for this blog being “cloaked in anonymity,” hmm. Maybe I like believing that if people don’t know, say, what gender I am, they will give my thoughts a more objective reading. No, actually, I’ve just had a couple of bumps in the past with people who used things against me (personally). Once my enemies are out of the picture, maybe the blog will change.
Again, thanks for your thoughts. I’ll try to include more film noir stuff so as to maintain the dialog.”

I like the fact, that (his or her) blog is “cloaked in
    anonymity”…and more “film noir stuff”…Yay!

    Hi! D’Ambra,
I read the article [Mildred Pierce] and I also read your feedback [or critique] of the film [Mildred Pierce] and I just finish reading the blog’s host response to you and all I can say is…

  2. Hey DCD, what do you think here?

Btw, this is my response to ZC at Precious Bodily Fluids:

“Thank you for taking so much effort with your reply. You have certainly given me more to think about. I look forward to more posts from you on film noir.

On reflection, my opening remarks on anonymity and your gender were pretty stupid, and I apologise.”

… a very interesting dialogue, between the blog host and you…

“On reflection, my opening remarks on anonymity and your gender were pretty stupid, and I apologise.”

    Hi! D’Ambra,
I think that your opening remarks, sounded more like a person that was “curious”… …Because of your use of the last 7 words in your opening remark(s), which were… “but that is just by the by.” [An indication to me at least, that the reviewer of the film “gender” became “secondary” to you.]

and in the end, his/her opinion [critique] about the film [Mildred Pierce] became the
“primary” reason that you decided to voice your opinion about the film [Mildred Pierce] without mentioning the blog host gender again.

    dcd 😉
